An Update on our Urban Fence Garden
Our fence garden is starting to produce plate-ready results. If you remember its humble beginnings, we thought you might like to see how it`s coming along:

The first few tomatoes have ripened (the smallest of course) and hot peppers are appearing daily. The herbs are in full glory.
I didn`t get the potatoes in on time – a good lesson learned. I am feeling that this is the first year that I`ve actually been able to produce any notable quantity of food for the summer and I`m most excited to have the supply of food that is here and coming…

Wow looks great everything is doing so well. Since my accident i can not use my left arm so I have been forced to do potted gardening makes me grateful for the right arm……love the pots on the wall….I always have a problem with basil funny huh?
I did the potatoes this year in the “trash can” after reading your site. They are turning out lovely! I have posted an album called “Progress of the the Trash can Potatoes” on my FB page…my friends LOVE it and I think some may give it a try next year. I think I will have 2 cans next year! I love your site and ideas! Thanks and happy growing!

Wow that is really coming along it looks wonderful!
That’s great you’re able to get productivity out of that space!
You might want to whack back that vine a bit though–it’ll take over. It is trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans)–a gorgeous hummingbird-attracting native vine, just really robust.
Lovely flowering vine! Good luck on the veggie garden. Ours is almost finished here in the deep South.
I agree with val. Prune the heck out of the trumpet vine. It can take it. You can shape it as and where you want. But don’t get rid of it because not only does it attract hummingbirds, pollinators in general love it! And you can grow much more valuable things on that fence! A couple of Alibi cucumber plants would work well. The cukes are tiny like little cornichons but the vines are prolific and do well in pots. I grow mine 4 vines to a window box (x3) and so far have gotten enough cukes for salads and a couple gallons for pickling.
